Evening and weekend appointments now available
Patients can now see a local GP for routine appointments on weekday evenings and at weekends.
Pre-bookable and on-the-day appointments are available between 6.30pm and 8.30pm each weekday, with additional slots available on Saturdays and Sundays between 10.00am and 2.00pm.
Appointments are available for any Greater Huddersfield patient in the Primary Care Centre hub at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
How to book an evening or weekend appointment
If you are registered to book appointments online, you can book an evening appointment with a GP at your convenience. If you are not registered to book appointments online, registering is easy – go to "Your Online Record" page listed to the right under Further Information.
You can also book an evening or weekend appointment by ringing the practice on 01484 500977. If you need to book an appointment when the practice is closed then you can ring the free NHS 111 phone line out of normal working hours and they will book an appointment for you if appropriate.
Welcome to The Waterloo Practice
The doctors and staff at The Waterloo Practice in Huddersfield are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred health care. We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations, sexual health services and well-person check-ups.
We are a training practice and we therefore have different doctors working with us for what may be only six months at a time. We appreciate that this can be difficult for continuity of care but the GP Registrars are mentored closely during their time with us and outcomes of consultations are discussed with their mentor daily so management of patients is shared and records are kept thoroughly up to date.
This web site is a work in progress but please have a look around.
Please go to the "Contact Details" tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page below the map if you wish to leave us feedback.
In line with many Huddersfield surgeries your options after 1st June for ordering prescriptions will be:
* Online- 24 hours a day including weekends
* Post your repeat prescription request to us clearly marking the required items on the list, remembering to allow time for the list to reach us by post
* Call in at the surgery with a list of the repeat prescriptions that you require
We would encourage anyone who has repeat prescriptions and access to the internet to register at reception for online ordering without delay. It may be appropriate for our patients who are unable to manage their own prescription requests to have a carer who can have proxy access to the online prescription ordering facility. Talk to our staff to find out more.
Telephone ordering is being restricted to help address the pressures on our telephone system for all other services and to improve the accuracy, safety and security when prescribing.
In line with the Huddersfield-wide policy we can no longer accept requests from "third parties" such as chemists or appliance companies.
If you are of the opinion that you have exceptional reasons that should permit you to order prescriptions via the telephone please let us know in writing. Arrangements will be made to accommodate our vulnerable patients.
Wanting to order your repeat medication, book an advance appointment, view part of your medical record without the cost of a phone call and at any time of the day (or night)? Just come to the surgery with photo ID (Passport, Driving Licence etc) and our receptionist can register you for our online system. Once registered use the link below to get started.
We have now extended the online facilities our patients can enjoy to include access to your Detailed Coded Medical Record. For information on how to view your record go to "Your Online Record" page listed to the right under Further Information

All Our Patients Have A Named Accountable GP
All GP Practices have been instructed by the current government to make sure their patients are aware that they have a Named Accountable GP.
When you register at The Waterloo Practice you become a patient of the practice, registered with the practice and not an individual doctor. This means that you can see the GP of your choice and should that GP ever leave the practice you are not left without a doctor.
However, we have encouraged our patients to exercise continunity of care by identifying a "Usual Doctor" with whom they can build a relationship so that the doctor becomes familiar with their needs and is able to offer the most effective care. The usual doctor takes the lead responsibility for the co-ordination of services to the patient in exactly the way the Accountable GP must. If you wish to enquire as to who your usual / accountable GP is please enquire when you next have contact with the surgery.
In addition to the range of contractual NHS services that we offer The Waterloo Practice offers some private services that fall outside NHS work. Contact reception for further details.
Patient Feedback - Good and Bad!
From 1st December 2014 we are participating in the national NHS Friends and Family Test which invites you to provide feedback on the services you have experienced at the Practice. We want to know about the good things that we have done so we know what is important to you and should not change. We also want your feedback about things that you feel need to be improved and we will see if we can do anything about those.
The results of your feedback from January 2015 onwards will be published nationally. It doesn't take long and you don't need to provide your details.
Look for details in reception or you can ask a member of staff how to take part. More information is available via www.nhs.uk/friendsandfamily.
Our Friends and Family Test can be accessed using the "Patient Survey" link below.
