Same Day Appointments

We offer a limited number of routine same day appointments which are only available to reserve from 8am on the day. These can be booked on line from 8am and from 8am by telephone or in person at the reception desk.


Urgent Appointments

If you consider your illness as requiring urgent attention and all routine same day appointments have been booked you will be asked to provide details of the nature of the health problem which will be passed to the doctor for triage. This is where the doctor assesses the health condition based on this information and decides if it warrants an urgent appointment for that day and if so we will offer one. The doctors have just a few minutes to see each patient at these appointments and will deal with just the most urgent of problems. We cannot guarantee which doctor you will be seeing for these consultations and it is possible that the doctor will be running late. It is unlikely that on-going long-term health problems can be managed in these consultations.


Advance Appointments

Advance Appointments with the doctors can be reserved up to four weeks in advance. If you have an on-going medical problem which the doctor is monitoring you will be asked to use one of these appointments for your return visit. Please, where possible, reserve your return appointment at the reception desk before leaving the premises, on your way out. For on-going medical problems we urge you to see the same doctor at each visit and reserve your appointment with us well in advance.


Evening and weekend appointments now available

Patients can now see a local GP, Physio and Phlebotomist (blood taker) for routine appointments on weekday evenings and at weekends.

Pre-bookable and on-the-day appointments are available between 6.30pm and 8.30pm each weekday, with additional slots available on Saturdays and Sundays between 08.45am and 5.15pm.

GP, Physio and Phlebotomy appointments are available  for any Greater Huddersfield patient in the Primary Care Centre hub at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and some physio appointments are available at other sites as well.


How to book an evening or weekend appointment

If you are registered to book appointments online, you can book an evening appointment with a GP at your convenience. If you are not registered to book appointments online, registering is easy – go to "Your Online Record" page listed to the right under Further Information.

You can also book an evening or weekend appointment by ringing the practice on 01484 500977. If you need to book an appointment when the practice is closed then you can ring the free NHS 111 phone line out of normal working hours and they will book an appointment for you if appropriate



Our nursing staff and some reception staff at the practice are trained to offer a Chaperone service to ensure that we can provide a safe and supportive service to our patients who are undergoing intimate examinations. We should like to encourage our patients to use this service. Please ask your doctor or nurse to arrange for a chaperone to be present when you are examined.



If you are unable to attend an appointment which has been reserved for you, please inform the surgery so that it can be cancelled and made available for other patients. This can be done by:

  • attending the surgery and informing the receptionist;
  • phoning the surgery and informing the receptionist;
  • you are also able to cancel appointments online if you have registered for online services
  • you can even cancel appointments when the practice is closed by telephoning and choosing the option on the system to cancel an appointment


Patients not attending booked appointments

A significant number of appointments are wasted each week when patients fail to notify us in reasonable time, at least one hour before the appointment, that they are not going to keep the appointment or fail to notify us at all that they are not requiring their appointment. We refer to these as ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA). Over the 6 months April-September 2014 we averaged 130 DNA's per month. The effect of these is:

  • An increase in the waiting time for appointments
  • Frustration for both staff and patients
  • A waste of resources
  • A potential risk to the health of the patient

If a patient fails to attend a pre-booked appointment on more than one occasion in the last 12 months an informal warning letter will be sent to the patient advising them that a further occurrence could risk removal from the practice. If the patient fails to attend another appointment, the matter will be discussed at a practice meeting and a majority agreement will be reached as to whether the patient will be removed from the practice list. If the decision is taken to action the removal of the patient they will be notified in writing.

Help us to help you

  • Please keep your appointment – or give adequate notice that you need to cancel it
  • Please do not delay the doctor – please show consideration to other patients. Remember an appointment is for one person only
  • Please come to the surgery when not prevented by serious illness or infirmity. A doctor can see many more patients in the surgery than when out visiting
  • Please order repeat prescriptions at reception and not during consultations
  • Please be responsible for your own health - take appropriate action to prevent ill health and follow the advice given by the health professional
